AmI.d 2006

is part of the Smart Event'06 which encompasses 4 international meetings:

- e-Smart, 7th edition, the leading managerial and strategic smart card industry conference (Sept. 20-22)

- World e-ID, 3rd edition, conference devoted to the emerging deployment of trusted electronic identities and seamless access to e-services (Sept. 20-22)

- Ambient Intelligence Developments, 1st edition, conference dedicated to Ambient Intelligence (Sept. 20-22)

- Smart University, 2nd edition, educational program in Smart Card and ID, designed and delivered by high level academics (Sept. 19-20)

More than 550 high level professionals involved in smart cards and ID are expected in Sophia Antipolis from September 19 up to September 22, 2006. This new edition of "World e-ID" is an ideal opportunity to share visions, see new perspectives and opportunities and to develop and extend professional peer to peer contacts and networks.

Future Ambient Intelligence (AmI)
environments will contain a large number of heterogeneous computing and communication infrastructures and devices that will provide new functionalities, enhance user productivity, and ease everyday tasks. Ubiquitous computers will seamlessly enhance the way we work and even the way we live thanks to the access to information technologies that will optimize the environment for people's needs in different physical spaces. Anytime/anywhere access to information and services will be provided.

In this scenario, applications will be influenced by the computational, physical and behavioural contexts that surround the user (for instance, because of resource availability and security or privacy requirements). Furthermore, the concept of application as we know it today will disappear. Applications in AmI environments will evolve from well-defined pieces of software, with static architectures, well-defined limits and owners, to what we could call AmI ecosystems, lacking a fixed architecture, controlled limits and even owners.

The combination of heterogeneity, mobility, dynamism, sheer number of devices, along with the growing demands in aspects such as security and dependability (S&D), make the development of software for these ecosystems vastly more complex and increasingly difficult. It will be impossible, even for the most experienced and knowledgeable developers, to foresee all possible situations and interactions which may arise in AmI environments and therefore create suitable solutions to address the users' requirements.
Moreover, developers will have to face the fact that some necessary pieces of software, communication infrastructures and hardware devices will not be under their control.

The focus of this edition will be on the enabling technologies for AmI. In particular, we believe that the
development of new software engineering and security engineering practices especially adapted to the new challenges introduced by AmI ecosystems is a key factor for the real-world development of the AmI concept. Original papers dealing with AmI issues are solicited related (but not limited to) the following topics of interest.

Notification May 30th
Final Version June 30th
We inform prospective authors that 2 tracks are proposed:
Research Track and Open Track

Research Track:
Authors are invited to submit original papers, not previously submitted to other conferences or journals, of not more than 10 A4 pages of double column text using single spaced 10 point size. Authors of selected papers will be invited to submit extended versions of their papers for publication in international journals.

Open Track:
Authors are invited to submit high-quality extended abstracts of their presentation(s), including a clear and precise title and summarizing the main ideas/contributions and the main points of interest for the Ambient Intelligence Developments audience. Submissions should be between 300-500 words and limited to one A4 page.

Full presentation and/or extended abstracts must include the name, function, address, phone, e-mail, and affiliation of all the author(s) of the presentation together with a short description of the author(s)' expertise. In case of multiple authors, the name of the speaking person should be mentioned; Only 1 person is allowed to present.

Submitted papers should be original ones, not previously published elsewhere, publicly presented or submitted in parallel to any other event. Submissions should be informative, self-contained and impartial. All submissions will be peer-reviewed by The Program Committee based on originality, significance, quality and clarity. The Program Committee will reject any commercially-oriented ones.
