The conference will be held in Rome from 24 to 25 May 2007.

Rome is the capital city of Italy and of the Lazio region, as well as the country's largest and most populous comune, with about 2.8 million residents (3.8 million considering the whole urbanised area, as represented by the Province of Rome). It is located in the central-western portion of the Italian peninsula, where the river Aniene joins the Tiber.

How to join the conference venue:
The Centro Congressi Palazzo Rospigliosi, located in front of Palazzo del Quirinale (the official residence of the President of the Republic), can be reached easily by bus from Termini railway station (lines 40, 64, 70, 78, 91N, 170, H). Consult the following map (click the image to enlarge it):

 TRAVELLING AND TOURISM

Transport

By Air: to Fiumicino (Leonardo da Vinci) and Ciampino airports.
Fiumicino, the Rome's main airport (32 km away from the centre of Rome) is well-connected with the centre during the day by an express train. The express train between Fiumicino Airport and Stazione Termini (Rome's main train station) costs € 9.50 and the journey takes about 30 minutes. The train departs from and arrives at Termini station at track n.27 and runs from 6.30am till 11.30pm.
Ciampino, the Rome's smaller airport, is mostly used by charter flights and budget airlines.
To get to the centre from this airport, take COTRAL bus (costs 1 EURO), get off at Metro A: Anagnina station, then to Termini Station.
Contral bus runs every 30 minutes, until 11pm. The only way how to get to Rome after this time is to take taxi.

By Rail: by direct trains from all major European cities (Roma Termini Railway Station is in the center of Rome).

Time zone

Italy is in the Central European time zone (GMT + 1hr).
Daylight Savings Time (+ 1 hour) is in force from the end of March until the end of September, as in almost all European countries.

Language

The official language of Italy is Italian. Although English is widely understood.

Currency

The italian currency is EURO. To perform currency conversion, click here. All major credit cards (American Express, Diners, Master Card-Eurocard and Visa) are widely accepted in hotels, stores and restaurants. The ATM (Automatic Teller Machines) in Italy are known as "Bancomat". There are many to be found in Rome. At the beginning of the transaction, the machine prompts the user for the preferred language.

Shopping

Shops mostly open from 09h00 to 20h00 from Monday to Saturday. They are usually closed on Monday morning.
Department stores and shops in tourist centres may remain open all day and, sometimes, until later in the evening.

Drinking Water

Rome’s water is safe to drink.

Electricity

Current is 220 V, 50 Hz.

Driving license

Driving licenses and other traffic documents valid in other countries are recognized in Italy. A green card (or an equivalent international insurance certificate) is required for citizens from non-EU countries.

Weather

Rome enjoys a typical Mediterranean climate which characterises the Mediterranean coasts of Italy. It is at its most comfortable from April through June, and from mid-September to October. Consult the Rome Weather Forecasts.
