MODULE

SMART CARD
& MOBILE TELECOMS (1
day & a half)
Sept. 17 & 18
- Module designed and coordinated
by Rick Chandler, Chairman,
Wireless Group EEMA

|
This module will examine the SIM as a specialised Smart
Card beyond the basic authentication and roaming. Potential
for extension of the functionality of the SIM is apparent
in the context of ID Management, Mobile Payment, Health,
Financial authentication and many other areas.
- Is this limited by ownership of the technology by
the Mobile Operators? Will a combination of SIM and
Contactless technology yield benefits?
- Will we need new standards and business models?
- Will incorporation of the SIM into more powerful devices
such as UMPC's and Laptops and the use of - Higher speed
Interfaces and Networks enable a new generation of fast
Mobile Authentication?
- Is it secure enough? Will it be offered as a service
in NGN's?
- The Identity community is looking for a trusted technology
as the vehicle for e-ID authentication, is it sitting
inside our Mobile Phones?
Some countries have already experimented with this.
We will examine the results and try to find a way forward.
Participants will hear the views of Academics, Large
Users, Smartcard manufacturers and Network Operators.
Sept. 17
9.00 am - 10.30 am
- Identity Metasystem
Ronny Bjones, Microsoft
Online identity theft, fraud, and privacy concerns
are on the rise, Given that universal adoption of
a single digital identity system or technology is
unlikely ever to occur, a successful and widely employed
identity solution for the Internet requires a different
approach - one with the capability to connect existing
and future identity systems into an identity metasystem.
This metasystem, or system of systems, would leverage
the strengths of its constituent identity systems,
provide interoperability between them, and enable
creation of a consistent and straightforward user
interface to them all. Microsoft has worked for the
past several years with industry partners on a composable,
end to end architecture for Web Services. The set
of specifications that make up this architecture have
been named the WS-* Web Services Architecture by the
industry.
This presentation reviews what Microsoft learned from
"Passport" and therefore will take forward
to the "Infocard" and its interfaces to
other Identity stakeholders. The aim being a consistent
user experience across multiple contexts, technologies,
and operators.
11.00 am - 12.30 am
- Mobile ID put to practice - use case and implementation
Jürgen Niinre,
EMT, Estonia
A Mobile operators view on use case and implementation
of Mobile ID. In Estonia with Mobile ID, personal
