The module "Digital Rights Management - from research
to implementations" focuses on Digital Rights Management
technology and on Digital Rights Management systems for
emerging ICT technology. Also, it will provide an overview
of open research problems and ongoing developments in
the Digital Rights Management field.
The module starts by providing a concise self-contained
introduction to the encryption-related basis of technologies
widely used in Digital Rights Management systems, as well
as on their current evolution trends. Also, prerequisites
will be covered enabling discussing aspects of the various
technical disciplines that intersect to form the Digital
Rights Management field.
The core of the module will be structured in three parts:
The introductory part of the module will address the traditional
notion of Digital Rights Management as a content protection
technology, discussing various content protection technologies
and their support at the hardware, OS and application
level.
The second part of the module will deal with state-of-the-art
and ongoing evolution of rights expression models and
languages, which will lead to a consideration of current
Digital Rights Management architectures.
The last part of the module will provide a discussion
of the perspectives of the Digital Rights Management technologies,
discussing what hardware-based Digital Rights Management
can do.
