Julien Cordry is a PhD student from the SEMpIA group (embedded and mobile systems towards ambient intelligence) of the CNAM (Consevatoire National des Arts et Metiers) in Paris. Roger Dean, played a significant role as a founder member and executive director of eema during the launch and establishment of the association in Zurich in 1987. During the last 21 years, Roger has contributed immensely to eema’s growth throughout Europe. During this time, his responsibilities have included the co-ordination of the various activities of the Areas of Focus, project managed the various Interest Groups and other working groups. These include the X.400 and X.500 standards interoperability demonstrator trails and the very successful PKI challenge which was undertaken on behalf of the European Commission and included PKI and authentication interoperability trials between 25 vendors from 9 countries.
Examples of papers produced recently are:- Towards Understanding Identity, An Introduction to Instant Messaging, Spam and e-mail Abuse Management, Wireless Deployment Guidelines, Secure e-Mail within the Organisation and PKI Usage within User Organisations.
Roger has been involved in the formation and interoperability of many standards and standard bodies, such as X.400, X.500, XML, “T”scheme, Emeritus, Web Services, e-procurement data and content standards. He assisted with the creation of UNSPSC and is a founding director of ECCMA, which maintained the UNSPSC product and services classification, which has established itself as a world standard with over 100,000 business adopters.
Prior to joining eema, Roger had a lead role in several start-up initiatives, including launching the first commercial e-mail service into the UK, France and Switzerland. He has a world class network of business contacts including senior executives in industry, multi-national companies, government, United Nations, European Union, DTI, e-envoy, OGC, NHS, defence and intelligence services. |

Tom Hissam is an Associate Partner in IBM’s Global Smart Card Solutions consulting practice. He specializes in mobile payments and m-commerce and has in-depth experience in chip card deployments in banking, government and telecommunications industries.
He and his team have worked on leading-edge first-of-a-kind projects globally. His specific project experiences include the following examples:
- Mr. Hissam developed IBM Mobile Payment Solutions and Business Cases on a worldwide basis, be they message, Java MIDlet or Near Field Communications based.
- Mr. Hissam was a key leader in the development and deployment of IBM’s Java chip card operating system, JCOP. He worked extensively with chip manufacturers, governments, and telecom operators to promote the use of JCOP in chip card initiatives.

Colin Mallett founded Fulvens Ltd in 2002. This consultancy practice
focuses on Mobility and eCommerce which includes Internet trust,
privacy and authentication. It has strong links to BT’s Research and
Venturing and is a sponsor member of the Liberty Alliance.
Colin joined the Radio Division of BT’s Laboratories in 1968. In the
1970s and 80s he was part of the team which developed undersea optical
fibre systems. In the 1990s he was an innovation consultant and design
authority for Concert and the BT Alliance Partners’ Strategic Agenda.
In 1998 he led collaboration with Telenor R&D to define a new kind
virtual communications provider called a ‘SoftTelco’. In 2000 he became
VP/Head of Development Strategy of a venture in BT’s corporate
incubator Brightstar to exploit the ideas. In 2001/2 he became
responsible for the BT R&V mobile applications platforms research,
and in 2002 helped start BT’s Mobility Research Centre where he was a
principal consultant/chief researcher.
Current assignments include a renewable energy study.

He is involved in European and Trans-national R&D projects for the Smart card industry for more than 5 years and the coordinator from 2004 to 2006 of the InspireD integrated project within the FP6 European framework.
From 2006, he leads the MaXSSIMM program initiated by the former AII agency and then the OSEO (French agency supporting innovation in the industry).

Jan Muehlfeit is responsible for engaging with European governments and policy makers, academics and other societal stakeholders in Brussels and across EU member states. His goal is to ensure that Microsoft continues to act as a trusted, open partner that listens and contributes to Europe’s agenda, enabling long-term growth, local economic competitiveness and job creation and innovation.
In his previous roles, as vice president of public sector and lately as vice president for corporate and government strategy, Jan Muehlfeit was responsible for promoting Microsoft solutions for public-sector organizations and delivering an excellent customer and industry partner experience. He also led Microsoft’s efforts to constructively support the policy goals of governments in EMEA, from employment and social issues through to competitiveness and economic growth.
Muehlfeit joined Microsoft in 1993 and, during his seven years in the company’s Czech and Slovak operations, headed a variety of departments including marketing and sales. In 1998, Muehlfeit was named general manager of Microsoft Czech Republic. Despite the challenging economic environment, his team generated remarkable results, and Muehlfeit became known for his dedication to the success of Microsoft partners and customers in the region. In 2000 he became regional director of Microsoft Eastern Europe and was promoted to vice president in 2002. Under his leadership, Microsoft business expanded substantially in the region, with new offices opening in several countries. In 2004-2005 Jan was also part of Microsoft’s international emerging markets executive board.
Born in 1962, Muehlfeit grew up in Czechoslovakia. He received a computer science degree from the Czech Technical University in 1986 and, before joining Microsoft, worked in the public sector as a programmer and information systems manager. Later he was director of international sales and marketing for Software602, a Czech software development company. Muehlfeit continues to support several charities, including "PCs Against Barriers", a joint initiative of Microsoft Czech Republic and a Czech NGO.. Muehlfeit has received numerous awards, including "Best Manager of Czech Republic for 1999" from the Czech prime minister, the "Czech Brain Award," presented by the Czech minister of foreign affairs and was named the Czech IT Personality of the Year three times. He also serves on the supervisory board of the Charta 77 Foundation and is a board member of the European Academy of Business in Society (EABiS) and the Junior Achievement Young Enterprise Europe (JAYE). |

Nowday is Director of Technology Developmant at Inria : the national institute for research in computer science and control, operating

of Industry, is dedicated to fundamental and applied research in information and communication science and technology (ICST).
Pierre Paradinas is Professor at Cnam (Paris) and owned the "chair of Embedded and Mobile Systems".
He received a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Lille
(France) in 1988 on smart cards and health application.
He was one of the Biocarte founders; this company was involved in the design, development and distribution of patient cards.
Pierre Paradinas joined Gemplus in 1989, and was successively
researcher, internal technology audit, Advanced Product Manager and
launched the card based on Data Base engine (CQL), Director of a
common research lab with universities and National Research center
(RD2P). He set up the Gemplus Software Research Lab in 1996. He was
also appointed technology partnership Director in 2001 and based in
California until June 2003.
He was the Gemplus representative at W3C, ISO/AFNOR, Open Card
Framework and Java Community Process, co-editor of the part 7 of
ISO7816, director of the European funded project Cascade project where
the first 32-Risc microprocessor with Java Card was issued.
He owns 20 years of experience in smart cards technology and is deeply
involved in the technology and research of smart cards, as program
committee member (Chair of the CARDIS'04) and expert for European
Commission and French government. |

Xavier is the Technical Officer in charge of the Smart Card Platform in ETSI since 2007. In addition to supporting ETSI TC SCP, he also provides support to the 3GPP CT6 working group, in charge of the 3GPP UICC applications (mostly (U)SIM and ISIM applications). Xavier also has a hands-on experience of R&D and standardisation processes as he previously spent 6 years in France Telecom's R&D division where he was a smart card expert providing support and internal consulting for both local and international mobile operations (Orange global). In addition, he was involved in the work carried on the NFC and mobile ticketing topics.
Xavier has been involved in ETSI TC SCP and 3GPP CT6 as a delegate since 2003 and was elected chairman of the ETSI TC SCP Requirements working group, a position he held until moving to ETSI.

Thomas Skordas received his diploma in Electrical Engineering in 1984 from University Aristotle (Thessaloniki, Greece), and the PhD in Computer Science in 1988, from the Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble (France). He then worked at Cap Gemini Sogeti as project leader in EU-funded R&D projects in the areas of Information Technology and Robotics.
In 1995, Thomas joined the European Commission as Scientific Officer in the Information Society Technologies Program, part of the Directorate General Information Society & Media (DG INFSO). From 2003 to 2005, Thomas was part of the Future and Emerging Technologies Unit of DG INFSO, where he was responsible for the strategic planning and thinking of the Unit and for the preparation of new basic research agendas in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).
