Smart Card Worldwide Managerial and Scientific Conference

SCOPE
In the Smart Card longterm impregnation process of the Information Society, the Internet bubble & telecoms crisis will have been only a youth disease. In 2004 again, the SC industry will keep moving forward quickly to achieve its worldwide mission at 3 main levels :

1. Strategy and Management
2. Technology and R&D
3. Applications and Market

Building and establishing an annual Forum of the industry experts and leaders to present and discuss the state of Art and the challenges the industry faces is a necessary part of this mission. By organizing the "e-Smart" Conference the two main Industry Associations Eurosmart and GlobalPlatform together with the first SC technology consortium, the Java Card Forum, have created this event. After four editions "e-Smart" has become the main worldwide managerial and scientific conference in the SC industry.

Gathering up to 300 international high level professionals and decicion makers each year, the conference aims at delivering a global and objective overview on the strategic issues of card technologies and applications, and a sharp vision of the Smart Card Future. The 5th edition of e-Smart will take place on September 22, 23 & 24, 2004 in the first southern Europe techpark at Sophia Antipolis, French Riviera. The International Advanced Communications Centre (CICA) will host the event.

This call for papers is aimed at issuers, operators, manufacturers, editors, teachers, researchers, rules & regulations organisations, professional institutions, end-users, consultants, lawyers, etc.

2004 Technology highlights

Java
While guaranteeing the management and growth of The JacaCard 2.X versions functionalities, Java Card is now facing work on next generation foremerging markets like DRM (streaming, real time key management), IT security, ID (high speed matching control). This implies new technologies
in the Java Card like high speed communication interface, Internet application protocols, multithreading, large memory, advanced power processing ...
This opportunity and challenge will be disclosed and discussed during the Java Card session.

Biometrics
Some biometrics technologies are now mature enough to be used in large volume applications. In parallel many governments are now enforcing the usage of biometrics associated with smart card technologies in order to protect European citizens.The goal of these papers. should to make a status on the maturity of biometrics and their potential applications at internatioanl level. Papers on legal and social impacts are also welcome.

DRM
DRM is now becoming the key for the distribution of digital goods on the Internet and on wireless communication means. Are the DRM technologies the panacea in terms of acceptance and of security ?
This session will cover political, legal, economical, tecnological aspects of DRM, as well as possible evaluations results of existing systems. Topics of interest may include : Privacy and anonymity, Public authority directives, auditing, business models, architectures for DRM systems, risk management, security issues, threat and vulnerability, etc, Internet and other applications.

Security
Security has become an important user issue and consequently also a major policy concern.Since 11 September 2001,the functionality of information systems has also become a matter for national security. Member States are, however, at different stages of their work and the focus varies. There is no systematic cross-border cooperation on network and information security between Member States, despite the fact that security cannot be a solely domestic concern.There is no mechanism to ensure effective responses to security threats. Implementation of the legal framework differs. There is a lack of interoperability, which impedes the proper use of security products.
In this session we expect papers that will explain proposal for a better cooperation between Member States, Industry leaders and the newly formed European Network and Information Security Agency to better meet the goals established by the EC.



SUBMISSION

Authors are invited to submit an abstract of around fifty lines including title, author's name(s) and affiliation(s).
Abstracts must be submitted electronically in PDF format to lperron@strategiestm.com.

All the submitted papers will be evaluated by the Scientific Committee.
The Scientific Committee requires that papers should not have been previously published or publicly presented. The conference is targeted to both a professional and managerial audience as well as a technical and scientific attendance. Presentations must be informative and impartial and may not favor particular products or suppliers : the Scientific Committee will reject commercial oriented papers. Submissions may address one or more of the above topics or other topics you believe to be of interest to our delegates.
Papers that have been formally reviewed and accepted will be presented during the conference and published in the conference proceedings. The proceedings will be distributed to the conference attendees.
