• China Unionpay card can be used at ATM in Thailand
China Unionpay and PCC Thailand signed one cooperative agreement on linking with China Unionpay on May 13, which means that travelers can cash money at ATM machines with the logo of China Unionpay, easy for travel and shopping in Thailand.
PCC Thailand is the only ATM network operator in the country, responsible for the transfer of cross-bank transaction and data processes in Thailand, including 14 local banks and 4 overseas banks. At present, PCC has opened the license for two largest banks-Pango and ThaiHua Agriculture to accept China Unionpay cards over 3500 ATM machines that almost covered the majority of the tourist and commercial locations in Thailand.
According to China Unionpay, this Company has started its POS acceptance business in Thailand since last January and in April, ThaiHua Agriculture Bank, as the main shareholder of PCC opened the license of POS acceptance business with China Unionpay card and has recruited more than 500 merchants to accept China Unionpay cards in the regions of Bangkok, Partaya and Puki Island etc.

• China Unionpay Card expected to be accepted in USA and Japan within 2005
Days ago, China Unionpay signed Unionpay Card Acceptance Agreement with American DFS and Japanese SMCC respectively. China Unionpay card is expected to be accepted in USA and Japan, as DFS and SMCC are the important financing institutions of credit cards in the countries. PULSE, the affiliate of DFS has about 1.5 million merchants nationwide in USA while DFS itself has over 4 million merchants in the States. SMCC is the second largest credit card company in Japan with the network of merchants acceptance at 3 million licensed merchants in Japan.

• Communication Bank launching new Pacific Dual Currency Credit Card
One new Pacific Dual Currency Credit Card with the logos of Communication Bank of China and HSBC bank was launched in Shanghai. This is the first practical project as a result of the both banks implementing their strategic alliance.
This new credit card fully utilized all possible resources of the overseas' branches, customers and clients of both banks, integrating the global and local advantages and promoting the theme of Chinese Global Card with the real convenience and services to the travelers in the world.

• Peony AMEX card issued in over 44 cities in China
SCFC news from American Express, the dual currency credit card - Peony AMEX card jointly issued by ICBC Bank and American Express has been expanded in its issuance from 10 to 44 cities in China, originally from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Tianjin, Nanjin, Changsha, Chongqin, Xi'An and Wuhan expanded to Jinan, Kunming, Fuzhou, HaerBin, Chendu, Zhenzhou, Xiamen, Nanning, and the provinces like Guangdong, Zhejiang and Jiangsu. The consumers can apply for this Card at the nearest branches in their cities. And the cardholders can enjoy the free annual fee for the first year if they have one-time use after three months of the cards issuance and automatically participate in the royalty program.

• Bank of China - Sichuan Branch launching Co-brand Card of College-mates
Recently, Bank of China - Sichuan Branch and Sichuan University jointly launched the issuance of a dual currency credit card - Sichuan University Co-brand Card of College-mates. This card has the feature of one card of two currencies, with a circulating credit ( free interests within 20 to 50 days ), the global Chinese services, confirmation of large transactions, the purchase of foreign currency with Chinese RMB and payment as well the claim of losses for free risks.

• The first Dragon University Bankcard issued to the University in Zhejiang
The first Dragon University Bankcard - Zhejiang University Dragon Bankcard was launched on the occasion of Celebration of Zhejiang University days ago. Mr. Chang Zhenming, President of Construction Bank of China (CBC ) and Mr. Pan Yunhe, President of Zhejiang University attended the Ceremony of agreement signature and card issuance. This card will be issued to the students and teaching academy as well as the colleges of this University.
This bankcard was launched based on the existing Dragon credit card (dual currency )
,which provides all functions of credit cards with 50 days' free interest. The cardholders for the University will enjoy the benefits of higher credit quotas, the mortgage services and the credit report after the graduation etc. And the Card can be used as the recognition card for students to make donations by using the Cards. This is one rewarding contribution from the graduates to the mother University.

• The goal of networking interoperability achieved for the bankcards in Shanghai
Shanghai witnesses great achievements in the bankcard industry with a total issuance of bankcards issued by all issuers in Shanghai at 51.94 million by March, 2005, growing 18% against the same period of the past year. For the first quarter of 2005, there are over 55.90.07 million transactions with total transaction value at 43.194 billion RMB, growing at 21.70% and 49.13%, among which there are 17.35 million POS transactions valued at RMB30.7 billion. The growth rate were at 52.76% and 73.4% comparing with the same period of the last year.

• Henan Province gained remarkable progress of bankcard
By April, 2005, Henan Province has totally issued 28.45 bankcards growing at 29.8% comparing with the same period of last year. The merchants grew to 5105 with 8341 POS terminals installed, increasing at 71.5% and 65.5% respectively against 2004. There are 2180 ATM machines accepting cross-bank cashing money. The successful rate of the system reached 97.55% in April with a 95.84% successful rate of transaction within the same city.

• Hainan Province seeing rapid increase of bankcard transaction
For the first quarter of 2005, the bankcard transaction volume amounted 1 billion RMB over POS terminals in Hainan Province, which is equal to the annual total transaction of 2003 growing at 96% against the same time of 2004. There are newly installed 500 card readers and 2500 POS terminals in an accumulated number. In order to ensure the better rate of card reading, the bankcard system in Hainan Province has been upgraded since last year, and more training courses have been provided to the shops, restaurants and tourist resorts so as to increase the success rate of card reading. According to the statistics, a good success rate of 99.98% has reached.

• 2005 Shanghai Master Cup Tennis Match using RFID to fight forged tickets
2005 Shanghai Master Cup Tennis Match is to be held at the Tennis Court of Shanghai Qizhong Forest Sport City on November 13 to 20. The Preparatory Committee announced at the Ticketing Sales Ceremony in Shanghai that this Master Cup would introduce the world's leading RFID technology to fight against forged tickets.
RFID technology has been the first application in the sport event in China. Each ticket has one chip containing the information of sea no., ticket holder and encryption. This ticket is one smart label.

• Patients wearing RFID tag to avoid wrong operation in Taiwan
According to the Taiwan Xinshen News, Taiwan Changgen Memorial Hospital becomes the first to introduce RFID technology in the surgical operating room. The hospital provides the RFID wrist so as to identify the right patient for operation and the rate of wrong operation has been reduced.
To protect safety of patients and prevent the medical carelessness becomes the focus of promoting RFID at the hospitals worldwide. This RFID technology can be used in the surgical operation rooms, as well as for the care of newly born babies and elderly people.

• Fujian Province selected as the first pilot city of using PBOC2.0
News from China Unionpay Fujian Branch, approved with confirmation by the People's Bank of China (PBOC), Fujian Province has been selected as the first pilot to implement PBOC2.0 (2005 version) in China. This project has entered into the testing phase and can be put in trial applications in all major hospitals in Fuzhou by the later half of this year. The Fujian Bankcard "YiKaTong"(all in one card) will ease the difficult situation of using one medical card for one hospital. Now the citizens can use this IC card to settle low value payment at different hospitals.
Ms. Yu Huaqun, Assistant General Manager of Fuzhou Branch of China Unionpay told the reporter that the IC bankcards could only be used for low value payment less than 1000RMB according to the regulations of the People's Bank of China. The cardholders must deposit some certain amount of money and re-load for further consumption.

• Hubei Province launching mobile purse
China Mobile Hebei Branch and China Unionpay Wuhan Branch jointly launched mobile purse business. This is the mobile financing service for the mobile subscribers combining the mobile phone number with the bankcard. The subscribers can use SMS and Internet, mobile voice to pay for the mobile phone fees and goods with combined bankcard. This service also assists the subscribers to check for the fees, balance of bankcard.
At present, the mobile purse business system is under stable operation and is expected to expand based on the existing businesses of check-up for bankcard balance and telephone fees, SMS fee payment, the purchase of insurance via mobile phone and e-gaming cards as well as the books via Internet. The two companies are planning to launch the mobile payment for utilities fees such as water and power supply.

• Citizens in Guangzhou and Fushan using Yangchen Card to get on buses
News from the Fushan Transport Department in Fushan, Fushan city will introduce IC card technology in its urban public transport system and will put into operation once the "Fushan Tong" system ( all in one card ) is upgraded.
The implementing Yangchen Tong of Nanhai city is to create a more fair marketing competition environment. At the present stage, the local transport authority is planning to coordinate with the Yangchen Tong of Nanhai city so as to ensure that the citizens of Fushan City can take the public buses by choosing Nanhai Yangchen Tong. As told by the responsible person in the Nanhai Yangchen Tong Electronic Fee Collection Co., Ltd., over 10,000 Nanhai Yangchen Tong cards have been issued since its operation. At present, the citizens can reload this card at any business locations of ICBC Bank of Nanhai City and will use this card to make phones at the IC card phone boxes apart from the payment for the public buses.

• Chongqi City: the Citizen can use YiKaTong for commercial consumption
The Yuchen Transport YiKaTong Co., Ltd. announced that its transport YiKaTong has been upgraded to City YiKaTong from 2005. Since June, the co-branded card of "Yantze River Yuchen Tong" integrating the functions of money saving, consumption and urban public IC card will be put into use.
The Yantze River Yuchen Tong has been jointly built up by Yuchen Transport YiKaTong Company and Chongqin Commercial Bank. This card looks similar with the Yantze River Unionpay Card. The difference lies in that this card has both the magnetic bankcard and chip card of Yucheng YiKaTong. With this card, the citizens will be able to save money and consume for shopping etc. and the all consumption functions of Yucheng YiKaTong ( Monthly Tickets excluded ). In addition, the payment for light rails and parking as well as the taxi will be included in the YiKaTong system by the end of this year.

• Nanjing: citizens able to pay taxes with cards
Days ago, one local Science & Technology Association in Nanjing City made a successful payment of RMB666 tax by using China Unionpay card at the POS terminals of the Tax Collection Service Hall of the local Tax Office. From the introduction of this Tax Office, the tax payees are able to use bankcard at the POS terminals to enter the related data which will be transmitted via Internet to the master computer in the bank so as to pay tax, funding and service fees. The Internet version of Unionpay POS terminal designed for the tax offices will enable the tax payees to fulfill all the above business requirement with one single bankcard and save the trouble of carrying checks or cash.

• Jiangsu: SuTongKa of High Way to be launched on June 1
The Highway Connected Electronic Payment System has been done by Jiangsu Dongda Intelligent System Science & Technology Co.,Ltd., which was approved by the Jiangsu Provincial Government. On June 1, this SuTongKa ( Express Payment Card ) of Jiangsu Highway will be put into operation.
The news reported that this SuTongKa is specially designed for collecting the toll fees of all highways in Jiangsu Province. This card has two types, one is saving card and the other one is debit card. The saving card can be collected at all banks by presenting the ID cards or driving licenses.

• One Mobile Phone POS to be launched in 2005
News from VISA International, the Chinese consumers are expected to see one new model of mobile phone POS by end of this year. This Mobile Phone POS, developed by request of VISA International can be used as mobile POS and be used to accept IC cards and magnetic cards. And the vouchers can be printed after one palm-sized printers are installed via one x-rail.
It is told that this mobile phone POS will cost RMB2400, plus printer totaling at RMB3200, similar to the price of one ordinary mobile phone. At present, the cost of mobile POS is at RMB4000. Being handy and without restrictions of space or lines, this POS has more applications than the traditional one, such as the payment of water and power supply, of taxi, plane tickets, the insurance fees, the lottery sales and hotels, restaurant.

• G & D (Jiangxi) won the first certificate of supplying the PIM card to China Telecom
Recently, G & D (Jiangxi) made one release that it became the first supplier of PIM card and card management system of smart phone for China Telecom in China. The Company has finished the installation and trial test of card management system at the three branches of China Telecom nationwide. It has launched this service on the day Telecom on May 17.
As the data shows, there are over 80 million smart phone subscribers in China and PIM cards will provide to the subscribers with more rich data of value-added services.

• China Unicom: Shanghai Kesi won the top tender
From the release result of the first tender of China Unicom in 2005, Shanghai Kesi Company has taken the No. 1 among all the dozen bidding companies in China by winning the biggest contract.
Ever since 2002 when this Company entered into the smart card market of mobile telecom, Shanghai Kesi has been trying hard to focus its attention on the customers and provided to the customers with the leading technology, qualified SIM cards and system solutions based on its strong R&D capability and technical experience. Following the use of WIB, OTA2, Shanghai Kesi has achieved a success of its low-end SIM card, specially 16K SMS grouping mailing card, which broke the limits of applications for middle and higher-end card. The less majority of the subscribers can also enjoy the speedy and convenient services. By now, this 16K card won the satisfaction of China Unicom. This 16K card of winning tender is the SMS grouping mailing card.

• Super-thin RFID listed as one of the three key projects in Beijing
Recently, Beijing has listed the super thin RFID tag research project being in charge by Beijing Qinhua Micro-electronics Co., Ltd. as one of the three key electronic projects in the local micro-electronic field. The Beijing Commission of Science and Technology has started the 37 key projects in 2005. This project has been proposed by
Qinhua Micro-electronics. The segmented topics have been allocated to the relevant departments.

• East LYNKO launching RFID middle ware and application software of its own IPR
This week, Beijing East LYNKO Science & Technology Co., Ltd. released one suite softwares of RFID and EPC middle wares-LYNKO-ALE and application package ( including LYNKO-TGS and LYNKO-TGS and LYNKO-IDM.
This company is the first super-class member of EPC Global in China and has kept very close relations and technical communication. It has caught up in parrelell with the international counterparts to develop the RFID middle ware based on the EPC structure.
East LYNKO has its own intellectual property right for its RFID middle wares. The launch of this product enables the Chinese companies to have the complete RFID product solution from smart labels, readers and softwares. It has been actively involved in creating strategic alliance with the upper and lower-end suppliers so as to jointly promote this RFID application in China.

• LEAD implementing EMV Migration via ATM
At present, Beijing LEAD Company has developed its self-service banking products supporting EMV2000 standard and PBOC regulation after its constant innovations.
To support the implementing EMV migration for the self-service banking products, Beijing LEAD Company, a subsidiary of Skyworth Group has successfully made one improved proposal to the EMV standard compliable to the EMV2000 and China Unionpay PBOC regulations and conducted the study of the previous products after identifying the related specifications of ATM. The improvements are focused on the terminal and encrypted key board. By this stage, the products of terminals have got the certifications of EMV2000 and will be upgraded in order to make sure all the previously sold products be upgraded for being compatible for EMV2000 standard.
