Speaking at the Java Mobile & Embedded Developer Days conference at Sun headquarters in Santa Clara, Calif., Sun vice president James Gosling cited insufficient information from Google according to the press.
It’s impossible to have a position on Android, because there is no data, Gosling reportedly said when interviewed at the event. "Over the last couple of years, Google’s been showing their phone at telecom conferences all over the world and with different business models, all of which really scared the carriers and handset makers.(…) Unless the day comes when they say what they’re going to do with it, it’s just a bag of code sitting out there," Gosling said.
Android is developed by he Open Handset Alliance, a group of more than 30 technology and mobile companies This open and free mobile platform is a software stack for mobile devices that includes an operating system, middleware and key applications. Main competitor : the LiMo Foundation started a year ago by Motorola, NEC, NTT DoCoMo, Panasonic Mobile Communications, Samsung Electronics and Vodafone to deliver a mobile Linux platform (Trolltech, Acrodea, ETRI, Huawei and Purple Labs have joined it recently).
