Splitstreem’s answer is that high level of data security and workforce productivity should not be mutually exclusive, but rather these two should be combined to achieve best performance. Splitstreem’s co-founders took their inspiration from mobile TV encryption system: in this invention, the TV data stream is split into two parts. Most of it is conveyed through the air, but a small part is transferred through a 3G mobile phone connection. This small fragment is sent separately to each user, which means that the users are precisely known. In Splitstreem’s encryption system, Splitstick, 99% of the required information is stored on the memory stick but the rest of the data resides on a server, which makes it possible to control its access.

The protection is fully automatic, transparent, and completely independent of any user action or decisions. From the user’s viewpoint, there are no passwords to remember or certificates to tinker with. Envaulting-based Splitstick protects the contents of the employees’ USB storage devices against loss, theft, and even leaving employees. It identifies devices automatically and ensures that no data goes on them unprotected.
