The challenge: all-in-one multiapplication card

Smart card micro-controllers are widely used for applications including logical access to PC and networks (PKI), mobile phones (SIM cards), banking and public transport. However, most of the time these applications are performed on different devices, resulting in higher costs, more difficult ID management, less flexibility, etc. LEGIC Identsystems managed to support these third-party applications and its own access control and identification applications onto the same smart card chip.

Innovative vision: The card-in-card

The LEGIC all-in-one area is the core element of LEGIC’s true all-in-one multiapplication credentials. It emulates a LEGIC transponder in smart card microprocessors provided by third parties and has the same multi-application capabilities and security functions (MTSC) as conventional LEGIC advant transponder chips. In a LEGIC reader, the virtual LEGIC transponder behaves just like a regular LEGIC advant crypto transponder.

The solution: Virtual transponder technology by LEGIC

The LEGIC transponder function is integrated in a third-party smart card as a "virtual card" in the form of a secure applet (LEGIC all-in-one area). This makes it easy to combine contactless LEGIC applications with other smart card applications. LEGIC functionality can be activated at any time as required.

The innovator

LEGIC Identsystems is based in Switzerland.
